How Much Do We Eat Out?

  • Per a U.S. Foods survey, about twice a week.

  • 3x per month out at a restaurant, 4.5 Take Out or Delivery.

  • According to DoorDash, the take out and delivery trend has been on the rise.

What Goes Into A Meal Delivery?

  • It can be the same food a restaurant sells, but it won’t cost you the same.

  • There are multiple extras in cost added in delivery services.

  • Depending on timing, size, and other order factors, these can really add up.

  • Below are some typical costs that factor into a Door Dash meal for example.

The Delivery Cost Difference

  • But it’s not that big a difference, right?

  • Using some cost estimate averages I found online, I used a $40 meal as an example/case study.

  • In dollars, it’s only $13.57. As a percentage, it’s 26.23%

  • While inflation costs are real and significant in recent years, this variety of food inflation is self-imposed.

How To Save If You Can’t Do Without

  • It’s always worth a thorough inspection of your fridge first to see if something you can make at home which can save you the most.

  • There are multiple ways to try to reduce the cost drag of food delivery.
